Enjoying House Renovation with Neighbors
by Pamela Cole Harris
Best to set some rules ahead of time!
1. Decide on a time limit ahead of time. I suggest an afternoon
(ending at 5pm) to encourage quick and cheap redecorating.
2. Decide on a dollar limit. To encourage creativity, set a
limit of $20, or better yet, decide to scavenge for home
décor and spend nothing.
3. Promise ahead of time to speak to each other after the rooms
are done!
4. Promise to do nothing to the rooms that cannot be undone
quickly and inexpensively.
5. No recriminations, no retaliations!
6. No trading husbands or kids!
What you can do: rearrange furniture, small paint changes with
leftover paints, mirrors and original artwork, pillows, vases
from the dollar store, old sheets, fabric remnants can be the
beginning of a beautiful creative room.
