Decorative Glass Turns Any Room into a Work of Art
(ARA) - As the blustery fall weather herds people indoors, thoughts turn from
outdoor projects to those that will make indoor living space cosier and more
pleasant for the winter months ahead, when weather dictates spending more time
inside.
Whether homeowners are completely renovating a room, or just adding a few
special touches to make the space more attractive, the end result is the same: a
room that is inviting, and that makes you happy when you enter it.
More and more people are turning to stained glass designs as a beautiful way to
make window, doorways and even shower stalls more appealing. "Homeowners today
are looking for a way to make their homes distinctive. They are very open to
stained glass designing in non-traditional places," says company president
Michael Cassidy. "Our customers want to give their homes a unique, vibrant look
and this can easily be done with stained glass overlay."
Stained glass overlay (SGO) is a process that is lighter in weight and more
structurally sound than traditional stained glass, while still being
indistinguishable in appearance. In the case of the traditional stained glass
method, many individual pieces of colored glass are cut and then bonded together
with lead strips. The overlay method utilizes colored mylar film that is used to
bond a design directly to the glass, while outlining the pattern of the design
by lead stripping that is bonded to both sides of the glass.
This process allows customers to personalize their design to match the colours
of their wallpaper, tile patterns and other elements in a room's décor. Cassidy
says he has noted two distinct trends in the use of decorative glass.
First, people are throwing out the rules and decorating according to their own
taste and style. "You can even have a stained glass window created that features
your dog, if that's what you want," says Cassidy. Best of all, the piece is
portable. If you move, you can take the dog window with you.
Another emerging trend is the popularity of dramatic, clear looks. "The feel of
clear textures is clean and timeless," says Cassidy. And lest you think that
clear means boring, Cassidy points out that SGO offers more than 50 different
clear options to choose from, including beveled and frosted looks. Cassidy notes
that many clients who are concerned about the resale value of their homes choose
a clear design option.
The artisans at SGO work closely with homeowners to achieve the look they
desire. They carefully observe the décor and create a design that is customized
to the room's overall appearance. Each project is handcrafted. "What you are
buying is basically a commissioned piece of art," says Cassidy. SGO's designers
have 200 colours to work with in creating their masterpieces.
Stained glass overlays can be used in a variety of areas of the house, from the
obvious, like windows, to the unexpected, like shower stall doors and cabinet
fronts; it's great for dealing with unique shaped windows that can be hard to
accessorize. Side door panels are a popular use for the product, since it adds
privacy without sacrificing light from outside. Decorative glass also blocks out
UV rays that can fade furniture and carpets. And here's a use you may not have
thought about -- decorative glass as a gift. Cassidy says that SGO is a popular
gift choice, especially around the holidays.
